MOOTING
Mooting can best be described as an activity that comes closest to being a lawyer while still studying at law school. It involves identifying legal issues out of a complex factual scenario, doing exhaustive research on those issues to advance arguments with authorities, followed by drafting extensive written submissions and finally the gruelling orals before a bench of eminent judges. In a nutshell, it is everything a lawyer is expected to do once he starts practising law.
MOOT COURT
Moot courts have been around since the late 1700s. They're a law school activity and competition during which students participate in preparing and arguing cases in front of judges. The case and sides are selected beforehand, and students are given a set amount of time to prepare for the eventual trial. Moot court involves appellate cases as opposed to those at the trial level, which are often called "mock trials." Moot court experience on a resume is typically considered to be more stellar than mock trial experience, although mock trial experience is better than none. The judges are usually law professors and attorneys from the community, but sometimes they're actually members of the judiciary. Students can join moot court in their first, second, or third year of law school. Moot court members research their respective sides, write appellate briefs, and present oral arguments in front of the judges. Oral argument is typically the only chance an attorney has in an appellate court to verbally argue his case in person to a panel of judges, so moot court can be a great proving ground. Judges are free to ask questions at any time during the presentation, and students must respond accordingly. A profound understanding of the facts of the case, the students' arguments, and their opponents' arguments are required.
AIM
The Law School Moot Court Society (“LSMCS”) is the student committee entrusted with the responsibility of administering and facilitating all mooting related activities at Atal Bihari Vajpayee School of Legal Studies (“ABVSLS”) and upholding the high standards of excellence that ABVSLS has set for itself in the field of mooting. PLANS FOR ACADEMIC YEAR 2021-2022
On an Intra-university level, we shall be organizing the Law School Moot Rounds every year in order to constitute the moot teams for that academic year. We shall be constantly revising and updating the various LSMCS Policies in order to ensure a fair and equitable offering mechanism for moots. Furthermore, LSMCS for the purpose of encouraging first years to take up moots shall be organizing, ‘Demo Moots’, ‘Introductory Moot Workshops’, ‘Novices Moot’ and, ‘Class Rounds’ and shall appoint moot mentors to support them. LSMCS shall also organize Inter-Class moot or Intra-batch Moots for first and second years, which shall put senior batches against the junior batches and subsequently the Alumni v. Student moot.
