The Department of HSS has been an integral part of UIET since the inception of the Engineering Institute. This reflects our shared belief that engineering education is not merely about technical knowledge and skills; it is also about understanding the economic, managerial, social, and human dimensions of professional life.
Our department offers four important courses to engineering students: Engineering Economics, Industrial Management, Communication and Professional English, and Universal Human Values (UHV). Each course contributes in its own way to preparing students for the world beyond the classroom. While Engineering Economics and Industrial Management help students understand economic decision-making and organisational functioning, Communication and Professional English strengthens their ability to express ideas effectively and confidently. Universal Human Values encourages them to reflect on ethical responsibility, relationships, and the values that guide both personal and professional conduct.
We are fortunate to have a team of highly qualified and experienced faculty members who bring their knowledge, dedication, and teaching experience to these courses. Their commitment goes beyond delivering the prescribed curriculum; they strive to connect classroom learning with practical situations and help students develop a broader perspective on their future roles as engineers and professionals.

The Department of Humanities and Social Sciences at the School of Engineering and Technology (UIET), Chhatrapati Shahu Ji Maharaj University (CSJMU), Kanpur, is committed to the holistic development of students by integrating human values, social awareness, and professional skills with technical education. The Department focuses on enhancing communication skills, critical thinking, ethical values, leadership, teamwork, and interpersonal competence. Through an interdisciplinary approach to teaching and learning, it aims to nurture responsible, confident, and socially conscious professionals equipped to meet the evolving challenges of academia, industry, and society.
