Duration: 3 Years (6 Semester)
Course Outcomes
This course provides foundational knowledge of Hindustani Classical Music through the study of Violin/Sitar, introducing students to its rich cultural heritage, essential terminology, and notation system. Students develop proper instrumental techniques, including correct posture, holding of the instrument in the Indian style, and appropriate hand placement. Through practical exercises such as bol patterns, alankars, paltas and basic jhala, they build coordination and technical proficiency. The course enables students to understand the grammatical structure of prescribed ragas and Taalas, the concepts of laya and layakari, and the performance practice of Maseetkhani and Razakhani gats with tans and jhala in basic ragas. By learning notation, students gain the ability to read, write and interpret compositions, while also becoming familiar with the structural aspects of instruments and the lives and contributions of eminent Hindustani musicians.
