1. Introduction

The C.V. Raman Research Projects Scheme (CVRPS) has been instituted by Chhatrapati Shahu Ji Maharaj University (CSJMU), Kanpur, to promote and strengthen the research ecosystem. This scheme offers Minor and Major research grants to eligible faculty members to facilitate original, innovative, and interdisciplinary research.

2. Objectives

  • To empower faculty members with financial support for undertaking research in core and emerging areas.
  • To promote a culture of inquiry, experimentation, and academic publication.
  • To build institutional research capacity through equipment acquisition and laboratory development.
  • To encourage faculty to undertake both pilot-scale and large-scale, impactful research projects.

3. Types of Grants Offered

A. Minor Research Grant

Supports pilot projects, exploratory studies, and preliminary data generation. Intended to foster publication-oriented innovation for focused, small-scale research.

  • Duration: Up to 2 years
  • Funding Limit: Up to ₹2,00,000 (Rupees Two Lakhs only)
B. Major Research Grant

Supports comprehensive, high-impact research projects addressing significant disciplinary or interdisciplinary challenges, aiming for substantial scholarly output.

  • Duration: Up to 2 years
  • Funding Limit: Up to ₹5,00,000 (Rupees Five Lakhs only)

4. Eligibility Criteria

Note: A faculty member may apply for Minor and Major Research Grants. A Co-Principal Investigator (Co-PI) is mandatory for all proposals. Re-application is permitted only after a gap of one year from the successful completion and submission of the previous CVRPS project. Both PI and Co-PI must be full-time regular or contractual faculty members of CSJMU or its affiliated colleges, with a minimum of three years of service remaining.

A. Eligibility for Minor Research Grant
  • Must hold a Ph.D. degree (awarded).
  • Must have three publications indexed in Scopus, Web of Science, or in refereed journals. (For refereed journals, papers quality will be evaluated by the University Advisory/Officials Team, whose decision will be final)
  • Guest faculty and postdoctoral fellows are not eligible.
  • Only one proposal per PI will be considered under this category.
  • Co-Principal Investigator (Co-PI):
  • Co-PI is mandatory for the Minor Grant category.
  • Must hold a Ph.D. degree (awarded).
  • Young faculty members can apply for this call.
B. Eligibility for Major Research Grant
  • Must hold a Ph.D. degree (awarded).
  • Must have five publications indexed in Scopus or Web of Science.
  • Must have successfully completed at least one extramural or intramural funded research project.
  • Guest faculty and postdoctoral fellows are not eligible.
  • Co-Principal Investigator (Co-PI):
  • Co-PI is mandatory for all Major Grant proposals.
  • Must hold a Ph.D. degree (awarded).
  • Must have three publications indexed in Scopus or Web of Science.

5. Proposal Submission Guidelines (Applicable to Both Grants)

  • Title (maximum 2 lines)
  • Introduction: Origin of the research problem, relevance, and objectives
  • Review of Literature: With references from national and international journals
  • Justification/Rationale: Why the research is necessary and novel
  • Methodology: Techniques, design, and plan of work
  • Timeline: Phase-wise distribution over two years
  • Facilities Available: Institutional/laboratory support
  • Facilities Required: Additional infrastructure or equipment
  • Equipment List: Existing and proposed (with model, make, and location)
  • Collaborations: With other institutions or industry (if any)
  • Expected Outcomes: Deliverables and potential for application or publication
  • Budget Estimate: With justification
  • Declaration: By the PI and Head of Institution/Department
