Ph.D. CSIR-CDRI Lucknow
Associate Professor, Department Of Life Sciences And Biotechnology
Research Interest : Cancer & Molecular Biology
Bio Sketch/About
Dr. Mishra earned his doctorate from Central Drug Research Institute (CSIR-CDRI) Lucknow, and CSJM University Kanpur, UP. His doctoral research focused on one of the major challenges in drug discovery to mimic the side effect. He successfully demonstrated that effective management of natural plant products and the existing drug would improve therapeutic efficacy and reduce side effects using various cancer model systems. After finishing his doctoral work, he received MEXT fellowship from Japanese government for post-doctoral work. He joined Prof. Hiroki Nagase's lab at the Department of Cancer Genetics, Division of Advanced Medical Sciences, Nihon University Tokyo Japan. Din novel DNA Binding molecules. His research identified two lead molecules targeting MMP-9 and MYC transcription factors. These small molecules blocks proliferation of metastatic colon carcinoma cells in nude mice and inhibit MYC-dependent tumor growth in switchable MYC-dependent xenograft model in SCID mice without showing any apparent toxicity. In 2011, he moved to the United States to join Prof Neil Bhowmick's lab at Samuel Oschin Cancer Center at Cedars Sinai Medical Center, Los Angeles, California, USA, as Post-Doctoral Scientist. His research focused on exploiting the tumor microenvironment's role in therapy. It has been well established that the tumor microenvironment can promote tumor growth, thereby reducing treatment efficacy. In 2016, he got promoted to the Project scientist level at Samuel Oschin Cancer Center at Cedars Sinai Medical Center, Los Angeles, California, USA. In 2018, he returned to India and joined as an Assistant Professor at the Department of Biosciences at Manipal University Jaipur, Rajasthan. At Manipal, apart from teaching, he established and headed the Cancer Research laboratory. He was awarded a Startup Research Grant of 33 Lakhs Rupees from SERB, New Delhi, in 2019. Dr. Mishra has 15 years of research expertise (post-Ph.D.) and advanced research proficiency in Cancer Biology, Molecular Biology, and Biotechnology. His research contribution leads to various international publications in renowned journals such as Cancer cell, Journal of Clinical Investigation, Cancer Research, Cancer Science, Oncogene, and PNAS, USA. He holds two international patents in the cancer biology area. He has been an editorial board member of various reputed journals. Dr. Rajeev's persistent endeavor is to serve science students, researchers, and end-users in Basic Science and Biotechnology and elevate the reputation of himself and the CSJM University with passion and determination.
