He is an internationally renowned Tabla player and the Director of Swami Haridas Sangeet & Natya Academy. A distinguished performer of the Banaras and Punjab gharanas, he has presented more than 2000 Tabla solo and accompaniment performances at numerous Indian and International music festivals. He has had the privilege accompanying many legendary musicians such as Ustad Bismillah Khan, Pt. Bhimsen Joshi, Pt. Hariprasad Chaurasia, Vidushi Girija Devi, Pt. Chhannulal Mishra, Pt. Rajan–Sajan Mishra, and several other eminent artists. Dr. Tripathi holds an M.A. and Ph.D. in Music from Indira Kala Sangeet Vishwavidyalaya, Khairagarh, and has also qualified UGC-NET (2001). He additionally holds master’s degrees in Commerce, Economics, Hindi, and English Literature, and the prestigious Sangeet Alankar from Akhil Bharatiya Gandharva Mahavidyalaya Mandal, Mumbai. He has delivered lectures and performances in over 15 countries and served as a Visiting Professor at the Cultural Institute of Macau and Asian Open University, Macau.
