Prof Nand lal graduated with Chemistry, Botany and Zoology in 1983 and post-graduated in Botany in 1985 from Lucknow University, Lucknow securing a first class and second position in merit. Mr. Lal joined prestigious CSIR–Central Institute of Medicinal and Aromatic Plants (CIMAP), Lucknow in July 1985 as Research Fellow in research scheme “Conservation of endangered Indian medicinal plant species through Tissue Culture and Seed Biology”. He qualified CSIR-NET-1986 and joined as JRF in Biotechnology Division of CIMAP where he completed his Ph.D. degree in 1991 in collaboration from Lucknow University. During Ph.D., Mr. Lal pursued research on cloning, germplasm storage and plant regeneration from cell cultures in Picrorhiza kurroa and Rheum emodi and artificial seed production in several medicinal plants. In 1989, Mr. Lal joined as Scientist at G.S.S.B.R.I., Seorahi (Kushinagar) where he did active work on cloning and genetic manipulation of sugarcane genotypes and also contributed to institute’s teaching/extension activities. He designed a training course on "Technology for raising seed cane nursery through Tissue Culture" and took the technology to progressive sugar industry units and farmers to reduce the gap between variety developers and cultivators and created job opportunities for biotechnology graduates. He joined C.S.J.M. University, Kanpur in 1996 as Associate Professor where he became Professor in 2004, Head of the Department in 2010, Dean of the Faculty in 2010 and Pro-Vice Chancellor in 2010. His work on the Biotechnology, Molecular Biology and Stress Physiology/Biochemistry of plants has been published in top rated journals and received considerable acclaim. He is on the panels of Reviewers/Editorial Board in several national and international journals. He immersed himself in conducting research in chosen area of specialization through DOE, SDF and DBT funded projects, guiding Ph.D. projects and M.Sc. students and teaching at post graduate level. Over 24 M.Sc. projects and 8 Doctorates stand testimony for his productivity in Plant Science research. As academic administrator, Dr. Lal has credit to develop model of Ist State J.E.E.(B.Ed.)–2007, prestigious C.P.M.T.–2010 and introduction of ICR/OMR based coding of answer books in examinations and use of e-governance in university. Dr. Lal has so far published more than 107 papers in national/international journals, presented 35 papers in conferences and contributed 10 chapters in reputed reference books. He has attended many international conferences and has chaired many technical sessions. He has organized many national and international conferences, workshops and training courses. So far he has received 4 awards. Dr. Lal served as Speaker for DBT sponsored Biotechnology popularization program in 1995-96 and as Mentor/Resource Person to DST sponsored Science camps under INSPIRE internship in 2012-13 and 2014-15 Dr. Lal is a Fellow of Society for Plant Research (India). He is a Member of many Professional Societies, including IAPTC, ICFHMG, FAOEFBFA, ISCA Kolkata, BII NOIDA, BRSI Trivandrum, and is an active Consultant to many reputed organization including DTE (UP) and NATIC.
