Ganesh Shankar Vidyarthi was a prominent Indian journalist, freedom fighter and leader of the Indian National Congress. He was born on 26 October 1890 in Allahabad, Uttar Pradesh. He started his career as a clerk and a teacher, but soon became interested in journalism and politics. He founded his own Hindi weekly newspaper, Pratap, in 1913, which became a voice for the oppressed peasants, workers and people of Indian states. He also translated Victor Hugo’s novel Ninety-Three into Hindi. He participated in various movements of the Indian independence struggle, such as the Home Rule Movement, the Non-Cooperation Movement and the Civil Disobedience Movement. He was arrested several times and faced many prosecutions for his writings and activities. He was also elected as the president of the Provincial Congress Committee of Uttar Pradesh in 1930. He died on 25 March 1931 in Kanpur after being injured in a communal riot. He is remembered as a fearless and dedicated journalist and patriot who sacrificed his life for the nation.<\/p>\n\n\n
